Details Review

Design and build:

Yamaha NS-SW100 subwoofer has an MDF body and is available in three different color options. It comes with a speaker grille to cover the driver. On the back panel there are several manual control options. While placing the subwoofer, the manual suggests one of the four placement scenarios.

You can place them on either left or right side of the speaker angling it so that the bass reflects on the right or left walls respectively. You can also place it between the speakers, either angling it towards left or right wall of the room.

Performance:

The Yamaha NS-SW100 subwoofer has a 10” front-firing woofer driver that uses Yamaha Active Servo Technology II. This ensures the bass is natural, realistic, and strong. This method acts by linking the amplifier and speaker. It produces low ends with higher resonant energy compared to others. It allows better bass response from compact cabinets. The output is a reliable and unchanged bass response that ensures the user can enjoy movies and music quite well.

It has a Twisted Flare Port on one side of the cabinet that ensures smooth airflow, clean and precise bass production. It will prevent the sound from being muddy or uneven. In case the sound is affected by standing waves, place bookshelves or other further along the walls. With a low frequency that goes as low as 28 Hz, Yamaha produces powerful bass that is engaging and enjoyable.

Some users prefer multiple subwoofers for more accurate bass production. You might like it so much that you end up purchasing two of them.

Connectivity and control:

The back side of the subwoofer has volume control, input port and power switch. Connectivity between subwoofer and amp or receiver is pretty simple. It does not come with RCA cable, so you need to purchase it separately. Once the connection is complete, adjust the volume to 0. Turn on all other devices and turn on the subwoofer.

Play a track and slowly increase the volume to achieve a balance in sound between the speakers and subwoofer. If you have a multichannel home theater setup, set the volume level at the middle position.

Use case:

This 10” Yamaha 100W subwoofer is best for small to medium sized rooms. While you can enjoy both music and movies, the subwoofer shines the best as we played movies.

Compatible device:

Yamaha NS-SW100 subwoofer will work with Yamaha speakers along with any other speakers in the market. You can easily mismatch the speaker and subwoofer brand.

Cost:

Yamaha NS-SW100 is one of the best subwoofers under $200. It is quite affordable so you can easily spend after amp/receiver or speakers.

FAQ:

How to connect the subwoofer with an amplifier?

Check for the sub out port on the amplifier. With appropriate cable, make connection between the input port of the subwoofer to the sub out port of the amp. In case the amplifier does not have any sub out port, then check for any line output. It might be labelled as ‘Pre out’.

How to connect stereo speakers with the Yamaha NS-SW100 subwoofer?

Just like the way you connected the subwoofer with the amp or receiver, look for Front L/R ports in your amplifier. Connect the stereo speakers with appropriate cable and you are good to go.
