KEF Q350 speakers have impressive stereo images and can deliver room-filling sound in compact spaces. They have great clarity and can give detailed performance. Music and movie effects sound quite well due to deep and smooth bass. For movie maniacs, we suggest at least a center channel. Once you allow them through long hours of break-in, you will see how they deliver warm and rich tone. Soundfield from this 2-way speaker is powerful and engaging.

Our Verdict

KEF Q350 is a versatile speaker that is ideal for home or office use. The speaker remains clear and undistorted even at high volumes. Allow the speakers to go through break-in and use the EQ options (if available) in your receiver to tweak the sound. They are compact in size and will not take up much space. We suggest you to place them in speaker stands but they will also fit fine on tables or open shelves. Make sure to use a grille if you have pets or children in your house.

Details Review

Design:

KEF Q350 is a passive bookshelf speaker that has an MDF cabinet. It has a rear port on the back side, so you need to leave some room allowing the speakers to breathe. It comes with rubber feet so that it stays put in one place and doesn’t damage the surface. Like other traditional speakers, it doesn’t come with speaker grilles, so you need to purchase them separately. It comes with foam plugs that you need to insert on bass port so that you can use them if you don’t have space in your room.

Performance:

KEF Q350 has two drivers in a single point. It has 1” tweeter and 6.5” woofer driver. The tweeter is positioned in the acoustic center of the mid-bass cone. This aluminum dome tweeter will eliminate any ‘sharp’ tone in the treble region making it more pleasant. Highs are well dispersed and precise. Like the Q150 KEF speaker, it uses tangerine waveguide. If you look at the aluminum cone woofer, you will see this design will decrease cone breakup and distortion.

On the other hand, the mids are decent and lows are well-controlled that packs a punch. For small to mid-sized rooms, you can play easily without a subwoofer. The speaker has 3-dimensional sound space that surround the user. One reason to place the Uni-Q driver array in the center of the speaker is to eliminate any resonance. On the rear side of the cabinet there is a CFD port.

This flared port is designed to reduce turbulence and port noise. It will also enhance the low ends making them more efficient and accurate.

Speaker placement:

Positioning speakers is quite similar to the KEF Q150. You need to angle the speaker towards the user. Distance between speaker to speaker and speaker and user should be 6-10 feet. Then leave a gap of around 39” from rear wall and 9” from side wall. Place them on speaker stand, tabletop or shelves so that they are at ear level.

Connectivity and control:

Connectivity of KEF Q350 will depend on the external amplifier or AV receiver you choose. Connect audio sources like TV, PC, turntable to the KEF Q350 and use the options of the amp to control the speaker. Music are handled quite well and the speaker can handle

Use case:

KEF Q350 speaker is best for medium sized rooms. For small rooms you will not need any sub. This is true for mid-sized spaces but will depend on user preference. In large rooms, it might sound weak so instead of relying only on this stereo system, create a home theater.

Compatible device:

Choose one from our amplifier list or pick one as per your own choice: Marantz NR1607, Yamaha A-S 801, Marantz PM-66SE, Rega Brio Amp, NAD C 316BEE V2, NAD C 338 amp, Denon AVR-X3300W, Sony STR-DN-1080 receiver, etc.

Connect the following speakers for your home theater: floorstanding speakers (Q550/Q750/Q950), bookshelf speakers (Q150), center channel speakers (Q650C/Q250C), and Dolby Atmos speaker (Q50A). Then connect a KED Kube series powered subwoofer. Choose the woofer driver as per your room size.

Cost:

KEF Q350 is a mid-priced speaker. There are other cheap models but this KEF model has a unique driver design that improves the sound. Since in midsized spaces you will not need a sub, it will cut your expenses that you would have otherwise spent on a sub.

FAQ:

How to choose the best amp or receiver for KEF Q350?

Initially you need to match the impedance and power rating of the speaker with the amp. Then, you can look at other features like microphone and room calibration software, EQ settings, remote control and voice command support. These will make usage easier.

When should I buy a subwoofer for KEF Q350?

Use the speakers for weeks and listen to the sound. For compact spaces you will not need a sub if you are not a bass head. Otherwise, you will need one.
