Details Review

Design:

Jamo S 803 has a sleek and modern look and will easily fit into any space. The top of the speaker has metal fasteners on which you can place the Jamo S 8 ATM speaker. It is designed to deliver sound without any distortion. Build quality is decent and looks are eye catching specially the wood accent. The speaker has a linen cloth grille that magnetically attaches to it.

It is designed to be rigid to ensure the cabinet eliminates any sort of standing waves. On the rear side of the speaker there are installed brackets that make them easier to mount on walls. This is great if you want to have a cleaner look.

Performance:

The S 803 model belongs to the Jamo Studio 8 Series. This passive bookshelf speaker has 1” tweeter and 5” woofer inside the housing. Unlike most other bookshelf speakers that have rear port, this model has a front-firing slot. Soft dome tweeter helps the speaker to deliver smooth and detailed highs. With the WaveGuide, the highs are dynamic and realistic. Bass from 5” woofer driver is smooth, even, and tight. However, it is not room shaking and we don’t expect it to be.

For bass heads, pair a subwoofer to the 803 speakers via an amplifier. The front-firing slot port boosts the low end while making them flexible in terms of placement. To find the best spot for the speaker, toe-in them and perform some trial and error. If you chosen amp or receiver has EQ option to adjust the bass and treble settings, you can manually adjust the sound tone as per your own preference. Allow the speaker to go to long hours of break-in so that they can play with full potential.

Placement:

The Jamo S 803 is designed to be used as front, rear, or surround speakers. Speaker placement is similar to the Jamo S 801 bookshelf speaker. To briefly put, form an equilateral triangle between the users and speakers. Leave a gap of around 6 ft. between them. Then place them on tabletops, shelves, or stands so that the tweeter is at ear level. The placement slightly changes as you move it to surround or rear speakers. Detailed measurements and images are shown in the user manual.

Connectivity and control:

Unlike most other passive bookshelf speakers, the Jamo S 803 has two sets of binding posts. One is for optional Dolby Atmos speakers, and another is labelled as Main. This ‘Main’ will connect to the front or rear ports of the amplifier or AV receiver. If you want to connect Atmos speakers, look for the labelled ‘Height’ ports of the speaker.

Connect them to the Height/Dolby Atmos output port of the amp/receiver. Then connect other audio sources like TV, PC, laptop, Bluray player, CD player, turntable, etc to the amplifier and listen to the output via the speakers.

Use case:

Jamo S 803 is good for everyday use. You can use it for music, movies, TV shows or PC games. However, for movies, we suggest creating a 3.1 sound system. They sound great in the kitchen, office rooms, living rooms, etc. The speakers will work great for different sorts of music genres including classic, jazz, rock, etc.

Compatible device:

Choose one from our following amp/receiver list or select one as per your own wish: Sony receivers, Denon S760H AVR, Pioneer SX-680 receiver, Fosi Audio TB10A, Pioneer SX-990, Yamaha RS202, etc.
